ECCO was founded in 1963 by Birte and Karl Toosbuy. A shoemaker by training, Karl Toosbuy dreamed of owning a shoe factory and running his own business. Therefore, the family decided to give up the security of regular jobs, sell their house and move to Bredebro, in the southwest of Danemark, just north of the German border.

The workforce atECCO is diverse, spanning several generations and a multitude of nationalities. Being different together, while maintaining a rigorous accent on craftsmanship and quality, is essential to driving innovation.
